Application for Vernon Township Assessor

  1. Duties of Township Assessor

    The job of the assessor is to value all taxable parcels of property within the township in a uniform manner so that all properties are valued at the same approximate assessment level. 

    The assessor must be certified by the State and meet continuing education requirements.

  2. Office of Township Assessor Eligibility Requirements

    To be eligible for the office of township Assessor, a person must meet the requirements listed in (35 ILCS 200/2-45).

  3. Additional Eligibility Information

    Any person appointed to fill a vacancy of township Assessor shall be a member of the same political party (Democrat) as the person vacating the office if the person vacating the office was a member of an established political party, as defined in Section 10-2 of the Election Code, that is still in existence at the time the appointment is made. Such appointee shall establish his or her political party affiliation by his or her record of voting in party primary elections or by holding or having held an office in a political party organization before appointment. If these do not apply, the statute provides that the appointing authority can consider a candidate’s record of participation in the caucus process. 

  4. Application Deadline

    The deadline for submitting applications for the current vacancy on the Vernon Township Assessor will be: Monday, January 5th 2026 at 4:00 p.m.  Any applications submitted after that date will not be considered.

    If selected for an interview, you will be contacted by a member of the Vernon Township staff to coordinate the date and time of your interview.
