Lifeguarding positions are part time positions. This position receives direct supervision from the Aquatics Director and limited supervision from the Program Coordinator and Director of Constituent Affairs.
Commitment
The pool season begins Memorial Day weekend and runs until Labor Day (or 1 week prior to the start of classes for college bound students). Pre-season training occurs in mid-May. Lifeguards are scheduled to cover public swimming shifts afternoons and evenings for 3-5 days per week based on guards availability. Weekly mandatory paid training occurs 2 hours per week.
Responsibilities For Lifeguard
Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the water
Provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services
Able to act quickly and appropriately to secure the safety of patrons in the event of an emergency
Present professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintain a high standard of customer service
Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
Prepare and maintain appropriate activity reports
Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures
Able to follow routine verbal and written instructions
Qualifications For Lifeguard
Must be at least 15 years old.
American Red Cross Certification in Lifeguarding, First Aid and AED/CPR required (certification course provided as part of pre-season training)
Ability to pass a pre-employment practical skills test in the water
Ability to work on weekends and evenings
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
Ability to accurately prepare routine administrative paperwork
Excellent customer service skills
